William James BODDY (1832-1911)
Painter and watercolorist. The son of an architect, he studied to be an architect, but moved to York in 1853 and started working for the artist George Jones (1786-1869). He gave painting lessons and made a career as a painter of landscapes and coastal views. He exhibited his works in York and London. For the last 25 years of his life William James Boddy lived in Acomb, Yorkshire. He stopped teaching in 1908. His landscapes come from many parts of Britain as well as Switzerland and Normandy.
