Painter, draftsman, sculptor.
Lives and works in Hilversum.
For Stips, the message counts instead of the medium; that is why he makes paintings, sculptures, books and music. In that respect he feels very related to the CoBrA painters; the colors and childlike style of his work are reminiscent of this. After having had success as a television and film director, Stips devoted himself entirely to painting, writing and sculpting in 1995. Since then he has developed a very personal and recognizable style, with which he often ironically depicts the relationship between humans and animals.
