Danielle van BROEKHOVEN (1975) Training Academy for Visual Education Tilburg (cum laude) and 2nd phase training Academy St. Joost in Breda. With 'nature' as the starting point, Van Broekhoven creates paintings that stand out because of their own use of colour, flowing shapes and a typical 'layer over layer' structure. Because she uses oil and acrylic paints side by side and works 'wet in wet' with them, she exploits the properties of both types of paint. Her paintings stand out because of an ingenious interplay between foreground and background, in which the abstract quality is maintained. Her canvases are created on the floor of her studio. Only when the canvas is on the floor can the work begin. Concentrated and carefully controlling chance, she begins to design her paintings. Working 'wet in wet' forces you to make quick choices and sometimes to intervene at lightning speed. Her working method seems simple, but consists of a continuous dialogue with the paint and is characterized by power and impotence, coincidence and determination.
