During his long career as an artist, Dries van den BROECK (Vorselaar 1923 - Kessel 1995) was always busy capturing the essence. It is as if he took you to the deepest depths of the earth and then again to the highest skies. He felt nature vibrate and penetrated to the core of things and he could do that in a few lines or in overwhelming colors. He devoted himself to drawing and painting in all its facets: drawings, watercolors, oil paint, etching, lithography, monotypes and mixed media. The nature of his work evolved and varied: from the landscape and the portrait to abstract work in which the color areas prevail, from almost expressionistic figures to the pure play of form and color. He himself understood this diversity as a continuous growth, evolution and discovering new things in life. his many travels stimulated him in his never-ending quest. He stated: "my painting is no different than growing to find and express myself". The artist lived in Beersel and Kessel near Lier.
