Edgar GUTBUB (Mannheim 1940 – Wuppertal 2017)
Edgar Gutbub trained at the Freie Akademie Mannheim (1961–1963) and studied sculpture at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Berlin (1963–1969). He worked as a sculptor, installation artist, and graphic artist within the field of concrete art, constructing constructions from elementary geometric forms and focusing on scale and direction. In 1972, he received the Villa Romana Prize; residencies followed at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris (1975–1976) and in the United States through a DAAD fellowship (1981). He was a visiting professor at the Kunstakademie Braunschweig (1990–1991) and at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach (1994–1995). Member of the Deutscher Künstlerbund.
