Born May 7, 1930 in Russia and deceased in 1982, Evgenii Matveevich Sidorkin was one of the foremost graphic artists in Kazakhstan. He studied at the Academy of Art in Riga (1951-1952) and at the Academy of Art in Leningrad from 1952-1957 (The ?Repin? Institute). From 1957 he lived and worked in Alma-Ata. Sidorkin drew his inspiration from folk art, folk legends and the history of the Kazakh people. ?Due to his expressive use of silhouette and his authentic linear treatment of the human face and body, the characters in his works resemble ancient statues?.Evgenii Sidorkin also illustrated books, eg he made illustrations (linocuts) for the novel ?The Path of Abai?from __n of the most famous Kazakhstani writers Mukhtar Auezov.The name of the artist is written in literature in different ways: Eugeny Sidorkin, Evgeny Sidorkin and Evgenii Sidorkin.
