Francesca ZIJLSTRA (Harlingen 1950 - Kelmond 2021)
Works mainly in bronze and stone types such as granite, marble and flint. However, she also uses materials such as jasper and black volcanic glass. The woman and the female portrait are central to her oeuvre, as a theme, such as Basilica, Donna, Quintet.
A wax model is changed every time, creating a new image and making it unique, with a beautiful old patina of its own. As with Picasso and later other artists, she is inspired by Etruscan art and old African masks.
She received her education from Prof. Paul Grégoire at the State Academy in Amsterdam. Both work is exhibited in our gallery. The master and his apprentice. Singer Museum in Laren and Museum de Buitenplaats in Eelde have work by her. The drawings have the same content as the images.
