Gerardus Hendricus Josephus Alphonsus HUIJSSER (1892-1970)>> past exhibitions / past exhibitionsAbout the artistGerardus Hendricus Josephus Aphonsus Huijsser was born on 8 June 1892 in Amsterdam. He was educated at the Quellinus Applied Arts School in Amsterdam, where he was taught by the painter Klaas van Leeuwen. Later he attended the State Academy of Art in Amsterdam 1919-1923 and was taught there by AJ Derkinderen, 1919-1923 and N. vd Waay 1929-1923. He painted (oil, watercolor) and mainly drew landscapes and still lifes, but also figures. in expressionist style. He also made book and journalistic illustrations, designs for stained glass. In 1921 he received the Cohen Gosschalk Prize. Huijsser traveled extensively in Turkey and North Africa. Huijsser worked and lived in Amsterdam until 1910, Bloemendaal until 1924, Paris from 1925, Algiers to 1928, Bloemendaal to 1930, Tunis from 1931, Haarlem to 1940 and Laren nh 1941 to 1970. Huijsser was a member of painters' associations St. Lucas, Het Genootschap "Kunst Zij ons Doel" in Haarlem, The Netherlands Artists Society "Amsterdam", De Gooische Schildersvereniging and the Limburgsche Kunstkring . Abroad he exhibited at the exhibition of the "Institut de Carthage" 1927-1932 and the Group of "Dodici Pittori Moderni" in Tunis 1933. Huijsser searched for his subjects in England, France, Spain, Morocco, Algeri_, Tunisia_. After 1945 in South Limburg and Zeeland and later (during and after participation in the "KLM" broadcast 1954) in Turkey and again in North Africa.Museums: Singer Museum in Laren, Stedelijk Museum Maastricht, Rijksmuseum Amsterdam and the Rijkscolle
