After graduating in architecture, Danish designer Grethe Meyer started working at the Stat Institute forBuilding Research. There she researched the general dimensions used in the design of homes and consumer products. She incorporated the result of this, the standard dimensions, into her designs. From 1960 she started working at Royal Copenhagen and at the same time set up her own studio. Meyer gained international fame for her functional glass and ceramic designs. She thought it was important that industrially manufactured products were affordable for everyone. By applying simple shapes and good tactics, she succeeded.
