Impressions of a landscape
For more than twenty-five years, Hans Dolieslager has been painting the landscape of the South Holland island of Goeree-Overflakkee. A subject that, according to the artist, is hidden within himself.
In those twenty-five years, the artist has shown his own view of this landscape. Every day the landscape shows a different face, depending on the season or the time of day. And especially the atmosphere, which changes with the weather; clear and sunny or misty and veiled is depicted by Hans Dolieslager in his recognizable way. Stripped of the anecdote, he depicts no geographically recognizable places, his image of the surrounding landscape is created. As he describes it himself: “They are a kind of memory images, images that I would like to hold on to”.
Initially, most of Hans Dolieslager's work was about the nature reserve "De Kwade Hoek", an area that forms the transition between land and water. In recent years we have often seen the cultural landscape with its rows of trees and extensive fields with the crops occurring at the top of the island.
