Jan de ROODEN (Nijmegen 1931 - ? 2016)
As a ceramist/ceramic artist, he is one of the leading names in the history of Dutch ceramics in the second half of the 20th century. In 1956 he worked in the studio of Lucie Q. Bakker. Jan de Rooden started his own studio in Amsterdam in 1958 with Johnny Rolf. He studied abroad through a number of scholarships and was invited as a guest ceramist by Gustavsberg in Sweden in 1966. Both Jan de Rooden and Johnny Rolf retired from ceramics in 2006. In 2012, the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague held an extensive retrospective of their work, in which a beautiful catalog appeared, published as an issue of Vormen uit Vuur.
