Jochen SEIDEL (Bitterfeld 1924 - New York 1971)
Like many artists in East Germany, Seidel came under pressure to give up modernism and stick to propagandistic works. To maintain his artistic freedom, he moved to West Berlin in 1953, and later to New York. He achieved some success, but not satisfactorily.
Seidel struggled with depression all his life and took his own life in 1971. He left behind a studio with more than 200 paintings and 1200 drawings.
