Martinus SAVERIJ (Haarlem 16-01-1793 - Haarlem 04-12-1871) was a house, carriage and decorative painter and founder of a varnish factory in Haarlem.
Savrij was a son of Hendrik Savrij and Maria Magdalena Rijnhard. He was initially a lead and tinsmith. later he developed into a house, carriage and decorative painter. He also painted portraits and various types of still lifes. He was an art teacher at the Haarlem drawing school. He was the teacher of, among others, his son Hendrik (the cow painter), his son-in-law Willem Frederik Weidner and Anton Mauve. He was a member and board member of the society Kunst Zij Ons Doel in Haarlem. His daughter Cornelia Johanna also became a painter. She married the later mayor of Reeuwijk, Frederik Hendrik Bulaëus Brack.
Together with Andreas Verpoorten he founded the varnish factory Savrij & Verpoorten. From 1846 this factory was continued by Savrij and his descendants.
