Paulus Jacob HOBBEL (Ooltgensplaats 1879 – Laren 1966)
Together with his wife Maria Hobbel-van Harten (Giessendam 1881 – Laren 1959) he was apprenticed to Lanooij. In 1918 they move to Laren to establish their own pottery. They produced simple decorative and utility pottery. Paulus mainly made small decorative vases and bowls, but also produced stock and apothecary jars. He used modest glazes for this. His wife Maria made a lot of common pottery, such as crockery and lidded pots, and like her husband she also made small decorative vases. She combined different colors of glaze. Her series of small wall plates with natural motifs is striking. Despite the economic crisis, the couple continued to produce pottery, but due to a lack of raw materials, the pottery had to close in 1944.
