Plateelbakkerij Ram (1921-1969)

NV Plateelbakkerij Ram was founded to carry out designs for decorative pottery by Theo Colenbrander. This happened in 1921 in collaboration with Henri van Lerven and Charles Engelberts. Jan Branger designed the ram's head that was used as a trademark. Until 1925, only Colenbrander's designs were carried out. However, these designs were very time consuming due to the laborious process of applying colors and were seen as art objects. Later on, cheaper pottery was mainly produced whose paint was easier to apply, despite being of poorer quality. From 1924 there was more collaboration with other artists. In 1925 Colenbrander definitively ended the collaboration. Over the years, the business operations and structure of NV Plateelbakkerij Ram have changed several times. In 1935 the company was declared bankrupt.
