Education: Hiroshige II was trained by Hiroshige I.
Hiroshige II was born as Chinpei Suzuki. He received an education from (Ando) Hiroshige I and took the artistic name ?Shigenobu? at. Shigenobu married Hiroshige's daughter, Otatsu, and took his name after Hiroshige I's death in 1858, becoming Hiroshige II. The marriage to Otatsu did not last; in 1865 they divorced. After the divorce, Hiroshige II took the name Shigenobu again, but sometimes also signed his work with Ry?sh?. (Otatsu remarried another ward of her father, Shigemasa, who has come to be known as Hiroshige III.)
Both Hiroshige II and Hiroshige III worked in the style of their master, but none of Hiroshige I's students ever achieved the success and recognition of the "master". However, along with Utagawa Shigemaru, Utagawa Shigekiyo and Utagawa Hirokage, they were exceptional students, with a high quality of work.
