Painting "Fisherman's Blues" - Aart van Beusekom (Acrylic-1991)
Signed by the artist Aart van Beusekom.
(Utrecht, January 15, 1939 – Amsterdam, December 25, 2014).
Dutch painter.
He was educated at the Applied Arts School in Utrecht and studied for a short period at the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. To broaden his horizons, he made several trips through North Africa, Asia and South America. Van Beusekom exhibited at one-man exhibitions in Utrecht and Amsterdam and group exhibitions in Boston and New York. His paintings are present in private collections, many government buildings and the Art Artothek in Amsterdam. His work gives shape to his own personal view within the tradition of realism in painting.
Style
His earlier approach can be seen as an attempt to depict an inner world related to surrealism. Van Beusekom manipulates the images that appear to him from visible reality in such a way that their entirety expresses a symbolism that reflects his emotional life while preserving the essence of reality. The way in which he composes his world on the basis of rhyming images guarantees him the transfer of an idea, a story that cannot be expressed in words. The painter uses his images like the poet uses his metaphors; just as the poem can convey its subtle message without crossing the boundaries of language, van Beusekom can map out its emotional values without doing violence to the optical reality.

This goes hand in hand with a more precise insight into the function of the painting itself. Studying Japanese prints and switching from oil to acrylic enabled him to leave the painting in its two-dimensional value, paradoxically expanding its possibilities. His paintings express a longing for beauty, which pure perception can evoke in us, which is apparent, among other things, from the role played by the feminine element in his themes and his use of warm colours. The value of van Beusekom's work lies in the field of aesthetics and outlook on life. From his perspective, they formed a harmonious and inseparable whole.
