Adri Blok - VPK Prinses Beatrix

Adri Blok was a student at the Academy of Visual Arts in Rotterdam, where she was taught by the sculptor Gerard Hoppen (1885-1959). She designed a roguish little girl's head in trois quart in broad batches, which almost fills the coin area. De Geuzenpenning writes: 'The first portrait medal, which was made of Princess Beatrix. Those who have the privilege of knowing Her intimately, as well as those to whom Her features are known only from photographs and films, will be struck by the excellent resemblance. Moreover, the youthful and freshness of this image is of great charm, so that in itself a most attractive girl portrait is given. The simplicity and sobriety of the reverse is entirely in the style of our young Crown Princess'.
