An iconic cardboard Brillo box by Warhol hand signed on the top of the soap box. Beautifully displayed in a plexiglass case. The box is mounted in the case. The dimensions given are of the plexiglass case, the box has the following dimensions: 13.5 x 16.5 x 7 cm.
One of the important themes in Warhol's oeuvre is consumer society. In the mid-1960s, he took this to a whole new level by turning consumer goods into sculptures. He hired carpenters and had them manufacture wooden boxes, similar in shape and size to products found in the supermarket. With his assistants Gerard Malanga and Billy Linich, he painted and screen printed the sides of these boxes to make them resemble recognizable products: cornflakes from Kellog's, ketchup from Heinz and also the soap pods from Brillo. These were first exhibited at the Stable Gallery in 1964. Some of the genuine Brillo products that have been elevated to art, such as this one, are signed by Warhol.
