In Myths; a portfolio of 10 serigraphs from 1981, Warhol referenced the dawn of cinema and the imaginary characters loved and recognized by millions around the world. Most of the images in Warhol's Myths series are taken from old Hollywood movies or 1950s television and portray the universal view of America's once enchanted and powerful past. Included in the series are characters that children love, such as Superman, Mickey Mouse and thus Santa Claus, as well as fictional figures such as Dracula, The Wicked Witch of the West, Uncle Sam and Mammy.
The work is not signed or numbered, but is stamped on the back with the stamp of the publisher Ronald Feldman Fine Arts, Inc., New York as well as the dry stamp of the printer Rupert Jasen Smith, New York. These "printer proofs" were a reference for the actual print, and were used for exhibitions and to promote the series. This screen print was issued on top of the 200 edition. Since it is a proof, there may be minor differences, damage and/or stains (from the printing processes).
