Antje Geertje (Ans) Markus (Halfweg, 29 January 1947) is a Dutch painter. Markus is known for her paintings of women in bandages. Markus is self-taught and her style is realistic. In 1981 she holds her first exhibition and from the mid-eighties comes great success. In the early 1990s, Markus van Udenhout moves to Amsterdam. In 1995 she opens her own studio and exhibition space on Prinseneiland. Markus is a striking appearance with her clothing style. She is regarded as the society painter of the Netherlands and therefore appears frequently in the press. In 2007 the Noordbrabants Museum in 's-Hertogenbosch showed a retrospective of Ans Markus. Ans Markus was artist of the year 2009.
