Beautiful Etching / Aquatint by Ans Wortel, hand signed. Titled: "Of course I wish everyone their laziness and their lust and their fun, but in the meantime I do hold my heart"
Visual artist, writer and poet Ans Wortel (1929 – 1996) mainly made oil paintings, gouaches and drawings in her long artistic life. Her work covers a period of more than 50 years. As an autodidact, she slowly started to search for her own form from traditional painting that can be called 'abstract figurative'. In the early 1960s, Ans Wortel, who lived in Amsterdam, began to gain fame with her work. In 1963 there was an exhibition of her work in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam and in Museum Van Bommel Van Dam in Venlo. Ans Wortel also won the prestigious 1st prize at the Biennale de la Jeunesse in Paris in 1963. The Rijksmuseum purchased work from her.
