Anton van den Horst (Teteringen, 1924 – Amstelveen, February 12, 2002) was a Dutch artist. He received his artistic training, among other places, at the former School of Applied Arts in Tilburg.
Shortly after World War II, he chose an academic career. He worked as a psychologist and was a senior research associate at the Municipal University of Amsterdam. He debuted as an artist in 1973 at Galerie "Myra" in Amsterdam, followed by numerous exhibitions at home and abroad.
The material as a source of inspiration
If one wants to give the work of psychologist and artist Anton van den Horst an "art historical label," it would seem obvious to classify it as matter painting. Although the term matter painting was used as a purely technical term, comparable to the terms collage or assemblage, it gradually gained acceptance as a distinct phenomenon in visual art with its own ideology. Matter painting first manifested itself in the years immediately following World War II as part of a much broader movement, usually referred to as Informal Art.

If you'd like to view the artworks we offer before the auction ends, you're welcome to visit our shop in Purmerend. Please send us a message or email in advance to schedule an appointment. After the auction, you can choose from various shipping (PostNL), delivery (Swift or our own courier), and/or pickup options (depending on the size and fragility of the item). We'll pack carefully and use sufficient material (bubble wrap/MDF boards) to minimize any damage. For multiple purchases, we'll combine shipping whenever possible to keep costs low. Pickup is possible anytime up to one month after purchase! If you need more time, that's always negotiable.
