Most of his furniture dates from much earlier, around 1905, when he worked with Kropholler. The furniture has a more Berlagian atmosphere. This office is located in the corner of The Hague School/De Stijl.
Provenance: The desk comes from Ben Smit's office. Ben Smit was Arthur Staal's partner and eventually took over the office.
The desk stands on a cart and can be assembled without screws/tools. It is very cleverly designed.
The dimensions are without the box on the left in the photo. On the right is another flap that can be raised, which is not included in the dimensions.
The desk does require some attention (see condition), but is very unique for a collector (museum?!)

| The desk needs some restoration. It has signs of wear and the wooden "pin" around the shelf on the right (which can be folded up to enlarge the desktop) is missing. It is made of heavily painted wood (Black with burgundy elements) and can be assembled by placing pins on the top in recesses. No screw is involved. If it is loose there is some play in it. But certainly not something that cannot be easily remedied with some attention. | |
