Van Charles Beck (1879-1971) circuleren weinig werken. Hij verbleef in de eerste helft van de vorige eeuw geruime tijd in 't Gooi en dat is beslist ook de inspiratiebron geweest voor deze kleurrijke aquarel. Adriaan Nicolaas ('Charles') Beck werd op 16 augustus 1879 geboren te Dordrecht. Hij was leerling van H.M. Krabbé en Heinrich Martin. Kunstschilder te Laren (NH). Was van beroep arts; schilderde, tekende (aquarel en pastel) portretten, landschappen en stillevens. Impressionistisch en expressionistisch. Hij groeide op in Dordrecht en Amersfoort, en woonde enkele decennia achtereenvolgens in Laren (NH), Muiderberg, Kortenhoef, in Wenen (Oostenrijk) en nadien tot 1928 in Utrecht. Vanaf 1928 was hij woonachtig en werkzaam in Rotterdam, alwaar hij op 92-jarige leeftijd overleed op 29 september 1971.
