Thomas Nix initially worked for the Rotterdam City Planning Advisory Bureau (ASRO). In 1947, Nix began working as an independent architect. In 1949, he received his doctorate from Delft University of Technology under the supervision of Professor Granpré Molière with his dissertation, "The Form Theory of Urban Planning, in Particular for Indonesia." Thomas Nix settled in Spain in 1979. He died in 1998.
During his career, Thomas Nix collaborated extensively with other architects, including W.A. Maas. Nix co-founded the firms De Jongh, Taen & Nix, and Nix & Van Hasselt. He designed numerous urban development projects (Nagele, Enter, Cuyk, Ootmarsum, Zandvoort, and Eindhoven), housing complexes (The Hague, Breda, Bergen op Zoom, Tilburg, Eindhoven, and Utrecht), school buildings (Eindhoven, Geleen, Woensel, Tilburg, Venlo, Utrecht, and Haarlem), churches (The Hague, Schiedam, Rotterdam, Nijmegen, Bergen op Zoom, and Nagele), a town hall (Cuyk), and the Corso cinema complex in Rotterdam. Besides his work as an architect and urban planner, Thomas Nix also worked as a visual artist. In his youth, he took drawing lessons from Henk Meijer and Bernhard van Vlijmen.
