- Daniel Wilhelm Bekking (geboren 8 Januari 1906 in Haarlem, overleden 4 september 1973 in Amsterdam) was al op jonge leeftijd leerling aan de Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten en Technische Wetenschappen in Rotterdam (1922-1927). Na beëindiging van zijn studie vertrok hij naar Parijs, waar hij zich aansloot bij een groep jonge expressionisten, waaronder Dunoyer de Ségonzac, Othon Friesz, Derain en de Nederlander Conrad Kickert. Na het uitbreken van de Tweede Wereldoorlog vestigde Dan Bekking zich in 1940 in Amsterdam. Het gelukte hem in korte tijd in Nederland vaste voet aan de grond te krijgen: naast de eigen werkzaamheden leidde hij in eigen atelier vele schilders op en van 1945 tot 1964 was hij eerst secretaris en daarna voorzitter van ‘’De Onafhankelijken’ in de hoofdstad. Hij schilderde, aquarelleerde, tekende (ook pen en pastel) in fauvistische trant portretten, landschappen, stillevens, interieurs, stierengevechten, etc. In zijn werk is de ontwikkeling te zien van 'Fauve' tot 'lyrisch expressionist'. Dit was de richting die Dan Bekking volgens zijn karakterstructuur moest gaan en hij is deze richting tot aan zijn dood trouw gebleven. Hij hield van alle vormen van kunst: schilderkunst, beeldhouwkunst, architectuur, muziek, literatuur.
