ABOUT THE WORK
From graphic art to mixed media.
Started in graphic arts with etchings and screen prints, Diane developed in drawing and painting for a long time. In recent years, Diane has mainly made small works in mixed media. Her current work includes special collages and drawings on handmade paper printed with texts by French and Dutch poets.

Lekkerkerker works from her imagination and her intuition. Her environment influences her work, but only a little later, never immediately. She works intuitively on each painting and lets her subconscious do its thing. She compares painting with listening to a voice: 'Sometimes you listen, sometimes you don't'. Lekkerkerker uses pigments in layers on top of each other. She then extracts the shapes and colors that present themselves to her. Many of her great (painter) works are about love, including the love that continues after death. Demons and muses, the artist depicts them both.

In the exhibition Lekkerkerker shows etchings, paintings, mixed techniques and drawings from different periods. Her etchings from the 1970s are often about the environment and those in power, about “us”. In her abstract 1980s she worked a lot with signs, personal symbols, which cannot be interpreted and to which everyone can give his/her own meaning.

In recent years, Lekkerkerker has mainly worked in small format, often on handmade paper. She also uses collages of her own material (mixed techniques). She also makes marouflages (drawings on canvas that are glued to a plate).
