Dorothe van Agthoven is geboren in 1950. Zij volgt de opleidingaan de Gerrit Rietveld Academie te Amsterdam van 1983 tot 1987, docentJan van der Vaart.Sinds haar afstuderen is Dorothe ontwerpster bij de fabriek Flora te Hardenberg en sinds 1990 ook bij benelux Design te Amsterdam.
Uitgangspunt voor haar industriele ontwerpen is steeds haar vrije werk. Dit zijn met de hand opgebouwde autonome objecten, die gekenmerkt worden door een strenge zakelijke vormgeving. Haar kleurbegruik beperkt zich tot wit zwart grijs en blauw. zij combineert haar keramische vormen vaak met andere materialen zoals glas en metaal.
