Beautiful photo by Eddy Posthuma de Boer, taken while walking through Kattenburg in Amsterdam in 1958. Gelatin silver print (from a later edition), with a studio label on the back and handwritten annotations. In very good condition.

Dimensions: 30cm x 21cm (sheet), 29cm x 20cm (image)

The "NV Vereenigde Amsterdamsche Melkinrichtingen," or VAMI for short, was once a renowned company. Its origins date back to 1878, when several Amsterdam families joined forces to form the Amsterdamsche Melkinrichting (Amsterdam Dairy Establishment). By 1917, this establishment had merged with three other companies (Plancius and De Nijverheid in Amsterdam, and Neerlandia in Weesp). They also began producing ice cream on Prinsengracht, using the "American system."

A beautiful tribute to Posthuma de Boer can be found on the website of another photographer, Nicolas Genty:

This artwork can be well packaged and shipped by registered mail at the buyer's expense.
When purchasing, a work of art can always be picked up in Diemen (near Amsterdam, a few minutes from the A10 ring road), but only by appointment. The period for collection is very generous; you can possibly pick up the work weeks or even months later and, if possible, combine it with a visit to (the area around) Amsterdam for other matters. In that case, you will of course save on shipping costs. The only exception to the above is that if the seller at any time decides to ship the work free of charge , this is binding, i.e. the work cannot be picked up in that case. This will only happen in exceptional cases and the buyer will not run any financial risk.
