Eddy Sikma was born in 1957 in Leeuwarden on the Emmakade. The Emmakade was a constant coming and going of ships. As a child, Eddy loved watching them, sitting on the quay, tied to a rope to keep him from falling into the water. His fascination with harbors began there.
Development
Eddy trained as an art teacher and went on to teach the subject at a high school. Teaching gave him a broad perspective and appreciation for how others work.
Later he also started teaching courses. He decided to give up teaching and focus entirely on the visual arts. He has developed into a
gifted painter.
His talent for drawing was also quickly recognized; the municipality of Leeuwarden hired him to create architectural drawings of buildings slated for demolition. These drawings can be found in the municipal archives. Eddy developed further on canvas and began painting landscapes. Harbor scenes also recurred in his work. He gradually earned the nickname "de Skilder," which is Leeuwarden for "the painter." Eddy Sikma recently passed away quite suddenly
