Eduard Klablena was born in Bucany in 1881. He began to train in 1895 in the workshop of the engraver and sculptor Karl Waschmann. In 1900 he was attending the Vienna School for Applied Arts. From 1902 to 1910 he lived primarily in Germany. He designed, among other things, models for the Royal Porcelain Manufacture (KPM) in Berlin. In 1910 he set up his own workshop in Langenzersdorf near Vienna. Already in 1911/12 he was very successful with his ceramic designs at the winter exhibition of the then Austrian Museum of Art and Industry, today’s MAK Vienna, particularly with his animal sculptures but also with those of “fashionable ladies”. The successful presentation of his ceramic works at this very important show by Austrian artists culminated in the agreement of the Wiener Werkstätte to accept 120 of his models on a long-term basis. In the following years Eduard Klablena successfully exhibited his ceramics at important shows at home and abroad, particularly in Germany and exported his works from 1915 on to all parts of the world, including America.
