Ernst Hanke was een van de weinige Europeanen die op een halfautomatische pers met maar 1 steen een meerkleurendruk kon maken. Zijn pers is na zijn pensionering voor veel geld aan Chinezen verkocht.

In the last twenty years he created innumerable pictures and nearly hundred original stone lithographs, whereby the latter all were naturally printed in his own printing shop.He had exhibitions in Switzerland, Germany, Holland and Sweden. In 1984 he received the international Senefelder price in Offenbach / Germany for one of his stone lithographs. In 1994 he was awarded the price for original stone lithography of the Swiss Lithographenbundes for one of his stone lithographs.
