Eugène Brands - Composition au fond d’or - Sold

Eugene Brands “Composition au fond d'or”, gouache from 1988. Gouache on cardboard, signed on the back, with oeuvre number, date and title. All this is visible in the recess of the back of the frame (see the photos). The work is very beautifully framed, but the gold on the front of the frame has wear spots and minor damage. Under a luxurious passe-partout with gold-coloured inlay. Gouache size 29 x 35 cm, cardboard thickness 2.5 mm. Dimensions of the frame: 56.5 x 62.5 x 2 cm. The gouache itself is in excellent condition apart from the very millimeters of the corners. See the photos of the outer corners of the cardboard. The cardboard of the framing has visible water damage, but without any adverse effect on the mat or the carrier (the cardboard) of the gouache. At the major exhibition “Eugène Brands: between studio and universe” in 2018 in the Cobra Museum, there was a large oil painting with the same title as this gouache and a similar color scheme. Several gouaches by Brands are entitled “Composition au fond de…. (color)”, see the images on the internet, including the gouache “Composition au fond ocre d'or”. Because the work is large and heavily framed, it must be picked up. It can also be viewed by appointment (please note before March 18).
