Frits Schiller genoot grote bekendheid in Amsterdam als hoteleigenaar en kunstschilder. Na een schildersopleiding bij G.J. Staller en daarna aan de Rijksacademie specialiseerde hij zich in landschappen, stillevens en stadsgezichten. Zijn grote talent lag bij portretten.
