Geert Vrijdag maakte werken in olieverf of krijt, op doek of papier. Zijn fantastische kunst doet denken aan de COBRA-beweging, maar heeft een heel eigen stijl gekregen. Zijn boeiende kleuren en composities zijn een lust voor het oog. Ze ontstaan zonder vooropgezet idee, zonder figuratieve bedoeling, en toch denken we er steeds weer iets nieuws, iets herkenbaars in te ontdekken. Kijken naar zijn werk beschreef hij zelf dan ook als `een ontmoeting met iets onbekends dat gekend wil worden``Ik beschouw mijn werken als een praktisch onderzoek naar de wortels van inspiratie en het beeldend proces. Het werk ontstaat los van elke figuratie, zonder vooropgezet idee of beeld en zonder bedachte plannen. Een meditatieve grondhouding maakt het mogelijk intuïtief te verkennen.Vanuit die leegte doemt iets op: iets onbekends dat gekend wil worden. De ontmoeting met dat onbekende noteer ik in vorm, kleur, beweging en materiaal. Het is tegelijk ook een uitdaging om af te zien van routine en traditie en vraagt een openheid en bereidheid om verder te gaan dan de zichtbare werkelijkheid.`
