Gerrit Marré werd geboren in Rotterdam in 1904 en overleed in capelle aan den IJssel in 1986. Woonde en werkte in Rotterdam, Antwerpen, Turnhout na 1937, Brugge tot 1939, Oostende en Rotterdam. Vormde zich zelf, raadgevingen van James Ensor, Schilderde en tekende, aanvankelijk impressionistisch, naturalistisch, later impressionistische strand- en zeegezichten, landschappen, naaktfiguren, stillevens en bloemen.
