Van der Wee, blessed with a good sense of understatement, notices that he is getting older by the day, walking is difficult, his hearing is poor and in one eye his sight has all but disappeared.
With his wife Liesbeth, de Soester cherishes his independence and the trips with those young friends, including 68-year-old Amersfoort artist Wilma Luigjes, to exhibitions close to home, but also, for example, to the Gemeentemuseum in The Hague.
There he saw Mondriaan's retrospective exhibition I enjoyed it, I find the interplay of lines interesting.
