- Opleiding Haije Gemser: lerarenopleiding tekenen en kunstgeschiedenis. Hij was docent tekenen op de Rijks HBS, later Prof. Mr Vissering Scholengemeenschap en tegenwoordig Vellesan College. Gemser maakt aquarellen, schilderijen en etsen. 'Ik maak figuratief, ogenschijnlijk realistisch werk. Ik ga uit van de werkelijkheid om vervolgens iets kunstmatigs te bereiken. Technische vaardigheid speelt daarbij een belangrijke rol om de illusie van een betekenis de schijn van een realiteit te geven. De aquarel is de basis van mijn werk; het is niet alleen een zelfstandig eindproduct maar ook de voorbereiding voor olieverfschilderijen en etsen. Tekeningen of schetsen in de traditionele zin maak ik niet. De aquarel geeft mij de kans op een intuïtieve manier te werk te gaan en de thema's die in de loop der jaren deel van mijn schilderwereld zijn gaan uitmaken, steeds opnieuw samen te voegen.'
