This work by Hendrik Smit was created in his characteristic way, in which he uses his hands/fingers instead of the brush and occasionally the panel knife to add accents. The artist Hendrik Smit is an artist in a long line of artists who not only worked with a variety of colors but also accentuated the typical Dutch light. After a long time of experimenting in various directions, he finally found his own way. His work is rooted in a Dutch tradition of intuitive and expressive painting: mainly abstract. He says: “I mainly paint abstractly and do not want any figurative element in my work.” He paints close to the canvas with his fingers, creating a powerful expression that makes the colors, as it were, splash out onto the canvas, or whatever he is working on. Despite the abstraction, there is a lot to see and more importantly, it is never boring.
