Beautifully preserved etching by Hendrik Weegewijs (1875-1964), framed in a luxurious wooden frame.
Special feature: The page is framed without a visible white border with 'must', signature and title. The artist's name, edition number and title are therefore noted on the back with pen/marker. It may have been a conscious choice at the time to present the work in this way from the point of view of personal 'taste'. Other option: the sheet was partially damaged along the edges and this was the only way to properly frame it.

Title: Windmill in Huizen
Year: 1913
Edition: 24 of 150
A signature in pencil is visible at the bottom, see the photo in question. In a luxurious frame with matching passe-partout. Frame has minor signs of age.
Photos are part of the description.

About the artist:
Hendrik Weegewijs was a Dutch watercolourist, etcher, graphic artist, painter and draftsman.
Hendrik Weegewijs learned to paint at the Amsterdam Rijksacademie when August Allebé held sway there. He then traveled through the Netherlands and painted and watercolored landscapes, village scenes, peasant interiors and figures in many different places. Between 1901 and 1908 he spent a lot of time in the Gooi. His style was fluently impressionistic.

Weegewijs received his education at the Drawing School for Art Crafts Amsterdam and the State Academy of Art in Amsterdam 1896 -1898. Pupil of August Allebe, CLDake Sr., Ferdinand Leenhoff and N. van der Waay. Teacher of Willy Bleys, among others.
He was a member of Arti et Amicitiae in Amsterdam. He lived and worked in Buiksloot after 1898, then in Edam, Volendam, Assen, Gasselte, Drouwen, Gent (Belgium), Edam from 1899 to 1901, then alternately in Laren (NH) and Blaricum from 1901 to 1919, Eemnes 1919, Amsterdam 1919 – 1921, Hilversum 1921 – 1926. Then again in Blaricum, then Edam until 1939, Naarden 1939 – 1940 and finally in Soest from 1940 – 1964. His subjects were mainly village and heath views, still lifes and figures. He is mentioned in various lexicons.

The leaf has probably been reframed once because the white border (with the 'must') including signature is behind the passe-partout. Monumental list with some traces of use
