Henk Hesselius belongs to the first post-war generation of modern visual artists. The Benjamin of the Cobra movement has continued to work in his unique style over the past 65 years. His painting is characterized by the use of bright colors and powerful brushstrokes, which gives his abstract work enormous expression. Hesselius' sculpture shows tight or playful geometric shapes, constructed from welded or forged steel. Henk Hesselius, born May 23, 1927 in Amsterdam, trained as a mechanical engineer at the MTS and attended the Rijksacademie voor de Beeldende Kunsten for three years. Was a member of the staff advisory committee for Visual Arts, Amsterdam Arts Council, Federation and working group Gaasperdam, and chairman of the Dutch Circle of Sculptors for eight years. Work in public collections and in numerous private collections at home and abroad. During his career as an artist, Hesselius held various positions within committees and institutions for the visual arts. Over the years, Hesselius has built up a reputation for consistently serving the interests of art and fellow artists with complete dedication. At the beginning of his career, Hesselius, like Karel Appel, still manifested himself as an 'action painter', but from the early seventies he opted for more structure and framing within his works. This did not mean, however, that he abandoned his own style. Hesselius is an artist who is constantly developing and continues to search for new forms, while retaining his own identity.
