Prachtige buste van Herman Bieling.
Herman Bieling volgde zijn opleiding aan de Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten in Rotterdam.
Later werd hij lid en medeoprichter van de avant-gardistische groep De Branding. Deze groepering richtte zich tegen de 'burgerlijke middelmatigheid' van wat in die tijd in het algemeen op tentoonstellingen te zien was.
In die periode maakte hij vooral kubistisch werk, met als voornaamste onderwerpen landschappen, stillevens en personen.
Herman Bieling woonde en werkte als beeldhouwer, graficus, tekenaar en schilder in Nederland, België, Frankrijk, Spanje, Duitsland en Engeland.
Zijn werk is vertegenwoordigd in collecties van het museum Boymans van Beuningen, het Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, het Stedelijk Museum Schiedam en het Centraal Museum in Utrecht.
