Information about the artist: Hermann Struck (Hebrew name: Chaim Aaron ben David), born in Berlin in 1876 and died in Haifa (Palestine) in 1944, was a German-Jewish artist known for his etchings. He studied at the Berlin Academy of Fine Arts. In 1899 he worked in the Netherlands (Zandvoort). At that time he met the Dutch artist Jozef Israels (1824-1911) who became his mentor. In 1908 he published the book 'Die Kunst des Radierens' ('The art of etching'), which became a seminal work on the technique of etching. Hermann Struck taught this to the artists Marc Chagall, Lovis Corinth, Jacob Steinhardt, Lesser Ury and Max Liebermann, among others. Hermann Struck emigrated to Palestine in 1922, taught at the Bezalel Academy. He helped found the Tel Aviv Museum of Art. He visited Berlin every summer until the Nazis came to power.
