Hubert De Vries - Visschers booten - Sold

Rare large and fairly early work by Hubert De Vries. It shows part of Ostend's pre-war (shrimp) fishing fleet in carefully composed, very well combined, warm autumn tones between soothing brown, ocher and orange. It was painted in the days when fishing boats were still 'fishing boats', the 1930s. De Vries gave the work that title on the back of the canvas. The work is signed at the bottom left and is in excellent condition and in its original frame (finished at the back with felt to prevent wall damage). It could have been made for an apartment or a villa on the seawall, but will appeal to any lover of modern marine, not least the collector of Hubert De Vries. The work is not suitable for shipping.
