Grote expressieve aquarel van het Geuldal. De aquarellen die Mels in de oorlogsjaren in Limburg maakte, kenmerken zich door een dreigende sfeer die meestal opgeroepen wordt met felle kleuren in een duister landschap. Dit werk is in pen gesigneerd. Gezien de gelijkenis met andere landschappen van Mels, is hier met zekerheid het Geuldal afgebeeld. Het werk is zeer fraai gelijst en onder passe partout met smalle goudkleurige inleg. Formaat aquarel 31x47 cm, lijst 52x70. Het werk kan gedateerd worden rond 1943.
Hier en daar zijn in de lichtere delen wat bruine vochtpuntjes zichtbaar, verder verkeert het werk in goede staat, zie de foto’s die helaas wat weerspiegeling van het licht in het glas bevatten.
