“American Football” van de Amsterdamse schilder Jacques Wesselius (1931-2012) staat bekend als één van de allermooiste sportschilderijen uit zijn oeuvre. Op dit grote doek, 80 x 100 cm, heeft hij op expressive "snap shot"-achtige wijze een schitterend en kleurrijk moment in olieverf gevangen.
Jacques Wesselius wijdde zich geheel aan de schilderkunst met onderwerpen als landschap, bloemen, havens, en sport. Het ging hem daarbij niet om het weergeven van de waarneembare werkelijkheid, maar om die zo om te transformeren en zodanig te schilderen dat er een expressionistische werkelijkheid ontstaat van een eigen schilderkunstige kwaliteit. Hij heeft vele malen geëxposeerd in binnen- en buitenland, o.a. jaarlijks in het Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, als lid van de kunstenaarsvereniging Sint Lucas..
Dit
schilderij “American Football” heeft jaren lang één van de wanden gesierd van het
Amsterdamse theater De Omval en is afkomstig uit de collectie van Deloitte &
Touche (sticker op spieraam).
Het schilderij verkeert in perfecte conditie, maar het doek zit in een vrij strakke lijst, die wat aan het spieraam trekt.
