- Johannes Coenraad (Jan) Bleijs werd in 1868 in Hoorn geboren.
Hij woonde en werkte voornamelijk in Hoorn, Amsterdam en Bergen. Hij volgde de Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunst in Amsterdam.
Zijn leven lang heeft Jan Bleijs zich toegelegd op pastels en vooral portretten. Zijn opdrachtgevers behoorden tot de bekende Amsterdamse families.
In de tijd dat er nog geen foto's in de kranten konden worden afgedrukt maakte hij jaren lang veel illustraties en portretten voor de Telegraaf.
Werk van Jan Bleijs is o.a. opgenomen in de collectie van het Frans Hals museum in Haarlem.
