Jan Bruens was at the cradle of Gramschap and was an enthusiastic activist, anti-fascist and anarchist and a special artist who always went his own way. He made precise pen drawings as well as revealing collages and overwhelming spray works. He was also an excellent writer. His reports on Ireland, Morocco and his drug experiences were among the best published by Gramschap. It was Jan Bruens who coined the term realistic analysis, which later became a collective name for the work of the artists who collaborated on Gramschap. He has never had much interest in moving in artistic circles and promoting himself to gallery owners and collectors. He preferred to spend time preparing and carrying out actions and his anarchist library. His house in Aardenburg was filled from top to bottom with books, many of them rare (left-wing) publications from all times, and he liked to lend out those works. He also stimulated and inspired many other artists, especially in Zeeland Flanders where he had lived since the late 1960s. (gramschap.nl)
