Information about the artist:
Jan Meijer , Assen 1927 - 1995 Dieudonné (France), lithographer, graphic artist, engraver (printmaker), pen artist, painter, draftsman, textile designer, manufacturer of mosaics, wall painter and collector of paintings.
-Education: he studied for a short period at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam.
In 1948 he became the youngest member of the Groningen artists' collective 'De Ploeg'.
In 1949 he left Assen for France, never to return. Shortly before, he had exhibited with fellow members of 'De Ploeg' Johan Dijkstra (1896-1978) and Jan Wiegers (1893-1959). , where his work was in great demand.
In 1953 Jan Meijer's work was again exhibited in the Netherlands in the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. His work has since been included in many museum collections. The Assen museum has a collection of Jan Meijer.
Jan Meijer was married to the Dutch artist Mechtilt Greiner (1934-2000).
